Slovenia calls for ban on arms exports to Israel

by admin

Slovenian Prime Minister, Robert Golob, said his country supports an embargo on arms exports to Israel, STA news agency reported on Thursday.

According to the report, Golob made the statement upon arrival in Brussels for the EU-Gulf Cooperation Council summit.

The prime minister also said that although the embargo itself would not be a solution that would lead to de-escalation in the Middle East, the ban on arms supplies is still being discussed along with other measures.

Earlier on Tuesday, Israeli media reported that U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin sent a letter to Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant and Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer.

The letter threatens to impose an arms embargo on Israel if the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip is not resolved within a month.

On Wednesday, the Axios news portal reported, citing sources, that Israeli officials vowed to quickly, improve the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
