Ona-Ara LG declares Thursdays as sanitation day

Chairman of Ona-Ara Local Government Area of Oyo State, Dr. Temitope Kolapo, has commended quick responses of security agencies and vigilante groups in tackling the security issues and maintaining peace in the council.

He also called for enhanced synergy among the security agencies, local vigilantes, community leaders, traditional rulers as well as market leaders to combat crime within the council area.

He made the call during a meeting with security agencies, local vigilantes, traditional council and other stakeholders at the council secretariat in Akanran as part of efforts aimed at fostering collaboration in strengthening developments and community safety.

He promised that his administration will always be committed to fighting criminalities and other social vices in the council areas in line with the vision of the state government to ensure a violent-free society.

The chairman frowned at illegal dumping of refuse and debris and enjoined residents to join hands with government in maintaining cleanliness, emphasising the need for healthy living.

The forum unanimously agreed on Thursdays as Environmental Sanitation Day for all markets in the local government area.

Kolapo, who noted that the peace enjoyed currently in Ona-Ara is as a result of cooperation with security agencies, local vigilante groups, traditional council, community and religious leaders in the council, pledged his support to all security agencies.

In their responses, security agencies expressed appreciation for the chairman’s support and commitment and admonished him not to relent in making the local government area the most peaceful among its peers in the state.

They asked the people, especially community leaders to report any criminal and illegal activities to the appropriate quarters.

In his remarks, the Head of Local Government Administration, Dr. Adedapo Atoyebi explained that the government is ready to combat crimes in the nooks and crannies of the council area and enjoined security agencies to reciprocate the gestures of the council boss.
