Fuel price hike: CONYL plans million-man march protest

by admin

The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), the umbrella organization representing youth groups from all six geopolitical zones, has announced plans to stage a protest march involving 2 million people against the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

The planned protest is in response to the indiscriminate hike in fuel prices to N1300 per litre and other petroleum products by NNPCL, which has made life difficult for Nigerians.

In a statement issued in Owerri on Tuesday and jointly endorsed by CONYL President General Comrade Goodluck Ibem, Secretary General Comrade Junaid Abubaka, Publicity Secretary Comrade Adeyemo Adewala, and Director of Mobilisation Comrade Iniobong Sampson, the youth group insisted that the protest will not cease until the entire leadership of NNPCL is replaced by more competent individuals for the betterment of the nation.

They stated, “The increase in the price of petroleum products, especially fuel, has brought hardship to Nigerians, leading to increased transportation costs, higher prices of food, and elevated prices of all goods and services in the country.”

According to them, the price of one egg is now N250, up from N50 a year ago, due to the high cost of fuel. Additionally, transportation from Lagos to Abia State has risen to N25,000 from N8000 last year.

They said: “the oil cabal in the oil sector is working assiduously to make President Tinubu’s administration look as if he is not performing but their plans is dead on arrival”.

CONYL maintained that President Tinubu means well for Nigerians but the activities of the oil cabal and NNPCL is frustrating the effort of the President in making life better for Nigerians.

The youth body said that the protest march is pertinent and mandatory for the survival of Nigeria and Nigerians given the great importance of the oil sector to the growth and development of our nation.

They said: “we cannot let a few take us for a ride hence the urgent need to take our country back from them”.

CONYL assured to communicate the date and time to the various organs of the youth groups across the country.
