Eight suspects in Police net for culpable homicide, others

The Gombe State Police Command has arrested and paraded eight suspects for various crimes, including criminal conspiracy, theft, armed robbery, and culpable homicide.

During a briefing for journalists at the State Police Command headquarters in Gombe on Tuesday, the PPRO, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, provided updates on crime and criminal activities. He stated that the Command, under the leadership of Commissioner Usman Hayatu, achieved this success in its ongoing effort to combat crime and other nefarious activities in the state.

According to him, in connection with the offenses of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, Ahmed Shuaibu, aged 24, of Barunde quarters, Gombe; Abubakar Usman, aged 23, of Kumbiya-Kumbiya quarters, Gombe; Mohammed Nuhu Jibrin, aged 30, of Abuja Lowcost quarters, Gombe; and a suspect known only as Habu, who is currently at large, were arrested.

He reported, “On October 2, 2024, at about 2200 hours, a formal complaint was received from one Alh. Isah Suleiman of Tudun Wadan Pantami quarters. He stated that on the same date, at about 0300 hours, unknown individuals armed themselves with knives, machetes, and sticks and stormed into his house located in that area. The criminals, who were in large numbers, forcefully broke into his house, attacked him, and robbed him.”

The items stolen included one Heojue UD motorcycle, six GSM mobile phones, one standing fan, one bundle of wrapper, jewelry, and one electric iron.

Upon receiving the complaint, police from the Low-cost Division acted swiftly, arresting one Moh’d Nuhu Jibrin, aged 30, of Abuja quarters, Gombe, in connection with the alleged crime.

Through him, the police arrested two additional members of the syndicate mentioned above, while the suspect Habu remains at large.

Recovered exhibits included one Heojue UD motorcycle, jewelry, various GSM phones, an electric iron, a Holy Quran (Pen), and one bundle of wrapper.

The PPRO added that during the investigation, the suspects confessed to specializing in armed robbery, car theft, and homicide, and that they had been convicted several times. They will soon be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

In another case of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery, Abdulwahab Abubakar, aged 16, of Bomala bye-pass quarters, Gombe; Sadiq Abdullahi, aged 15, of Riyal bye-pass quarters, Gombe; and a suspect known as Musa (alias Musa Lele), who is currently at large, were arrested.

Buhari Abdullahi stated, “On September 25, 2024, at about 1935 hours, a formal complaint was received from one Adamu Ibrahim of Riyal bye-pass. He reported that his younger brother, Sanusi Jibrin, of the same address, was attacked by the aforementioned individuals with machetes, inflicting serious injuries to his head, and was robbed of his phone.”

Following the complaint, police detectives from Gona Division acted quickly, rushing the victim to Specialist Hospital, Gombe, for medical attention.

The suspects were arrested in connection with the crime, and during the investigation, they confessed. They will also soon be charged in court upon the investigation’s conclusion.

Exhibits recovered from them included one Huawei GSM phone.

Additionally, for the crime of culpable homicide, Haruna Ibrahim, aged 20, of Tumu, Akko LGA, Gombe, was arrested.

On October 2, 2024, at about 1612 hours, a formal complaint was received from a caller in Kashere, Akko LGA, Gombe, reporting that one Auwalu Maigadali, aged 27, of Kashere, Akko LGA, was attacked and murdered by hoodlums at Tukulma Village within the same LGA.

Upon receipt of the information, the patrol team from Pindiga Division rushed to the scene, transported the victim to Tumu Cottage Hospital, and arrested the suspect in connection with the crime. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining fleeing suspects.

“Finally, we appeal to the good people of Gombe State to continue partnering with the Command by taking a keen interest in their personal security and neighborhood safety, providing useful information on the activities of any suspicious individuals or groups,” the PPRO emphasized.
