The new Area Commander in charge of Sango Ota Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Oladele Bamidele Oluwashola has harped on the importance of community policing and Alternative Dispute Resolution.
The police boss emphasised community policing and Alternative Dispute Resolution during her maiden address to men and officers of the Sango area command.
The new police boss also charged policemen in the area command to always ensure professionalism, diligence, discipline, and civility in their day-to-day interaction with members of the public.
She also expresses her commitment to creating an enabling environment for officers of the area command to perform effectively.
She said “I want to begin by appreciating the Inspector General of Police for deeming me fit to be the Area Commander in charge of Sango.
“Today, I have told men and officers under the command to note that discipline and professionalism and the bedrock of of the Nigeria Police Force.”
She added; “I have enjoined them to be diligent with their duty. They should ensure that they maintain their duty post and they should maintain law and order at every time.
“I have also emphasised the importance of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADE). It is not all the time that you lock people up in cells and take them to court.
“There are issues that you can use ADR to settle and peace will reign. I have told them to inculcate it as part of settling disputes.”
It is only when ADR fails that we can begin to apply other principles of law but it is important to try ADR first.
The Sango Area Commander also stressed that ” I am a firm believer of Community Policing and it will be my guiding principle in this area command.
Policing is about people and their security and I will ensure the involvement of the different communities here in our engagements.
