Nine persons, including a 10-year-old boy, have lost their lives in three separate incidents in Lagos State, with many others confirmed injured.

In one of the tragic incidents, four people died in a fire that engulfed a club and bar in the Olodi Apapa area of Lagos State. Two other persons were killed when a school fence collapsed in the Ejigbo area of the state. Additionally, three occupants of a commercial bus lost their lives, while several others sustained injuries in a multiple-vehicle accident near the Mile 2 area.

The Lagos State Police Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed all three incidents to the Nigerian Tribune and stated that investigations have commenced.

Speaking on the fire incident, Hundeyin said, “On 13/10/24, at about 07:50 hours, a distress call was received that fire had gutted a lounge and bar located at Baale Road, Olodi Apapa. Teams of policemen and firefighters were swiftly mobilised to the scene, and the fire, which affected the entire building, was successfully put out.”

He continued, “However, four staff members of the establishment, who are yet to be identified, were burnt beyond recognition. Their corpses have been evacuated to the Infectious Disease Hospital (IDH) Morgue in Yaba for autopsy.”

In a separate incident, Hundeyin reported a fatal multiple-vehicle accident. “On 13/10/24, at about 18:00 hours, a distress call was received at Festac Town Division. An unregistered MAN truck, loaded with black oil, reportedly had brake failure, lost control, and rammed into three vehicles: a Volkswagen commercial bus, a Honda saloon car, and another vehicle at the Second Rainbow bus stop, heading toward Mile 2 along the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway,” he said.

“As a result, three passengers in the commercial bus, whose names and addresses are yet to be confirmed, died on the spot,” Hundeyin added.

Regarding the school fence collapse, Hundeyin narrated, “On 12/10/24, at about 10:30 hours, a distress call was received at the Ejigbo Division that a school fence located at Apano Street off Nurudeen One Street, Ejigbo, collapsed and fell on three individuals.”

The deceased were identified as 30-year-old Amala, 28-year-old Etim, and 12-year-old Emmanuel, all residents of the area. The victims were reportedly walking home during the rainfall when the fence collapsed.

“As a result, the victims sustained serious injuries and became unconscious. They were rushed to Isolo General Hospital for treatment, where Etim and Emmanuel were confirmed dead by the doctors on duty,” Hundeyin concluded.
