A violent mob in Edo State has allegedly killed three suspected kidnappers following the disappearance and murder of a young man, known only as Junior, in Okpiko community, Agenebode, Etsako West Local Government Area.

The mob also set a police station and a vehicle on fire in the chaos that ensued.

Junior, a farmer, had gone missing after leaving on his motorcycle the day before Eid-al-Kabir. His disappearance took a dark turn when a local security guard, later identified as a kidnapping suspect, posted Junior’s photo on Facebook last Sunday. The post led to the suspect’s arrest.

A local resident, identified only as Andrew, revealed that the suspect confessed to the kidnapping, naming two accomplices. Junior’s motorcycle was later found at one of their houses.

“They confessed to kidnapping and killing him, then burying the body,” Andrew said. This confession enraged the local youths, who demanded the police release the suspects to lead them to Junior’s burial site. However, the police refused,” he said.

In retaliation, the mob stormed the police station, set it on fire, and forcibly took the suspects. The suspects then led them to Junior’s burial site. Upon exhuming the body, the mob discovered additional corpses, many of which had their vital organs removed.

Angered by the gruesome discovery, the mob beat the suspects to death before setting them on fire. Andrew added that the mastermind behind the crime had worked for Junior on his farm.

The Edo State Police Command spokesperson, SP Moses Yamu, confirmed that the situation has since been brought under control.
