The Lagos State Head of Service (HoS), Mr Bode Agoro, has urged intending retiree officers to mentor younger colleagues in their respective ministries, with a view to fostering positive thinking and ensuring effective service delivery.
Speaking at the 27th Retirement Benefits Documentation Seminar, held at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in Alausa, Ikeja, for public servants set to retire between 1st January and 30th June 2025, Agoro highlighted the importance of passing on institutional knowledge before retiring.
“The fact remains that our journey as Civil/Public Servants will surely end one day, but the legacies left behind will speak volumes even after retirement. Therefore, as your service to the Lagos State Public Service winds down, I want to admonish you to spend the little time left mentoring the downline officers in your various MDAs, in a way that will engender positive thinking, a growth mindset, and effective service delivery at all times,” he said.
Agoro commended the intending retiree public servants for their dedication and hard work, acknowledging the vital contributions they had made towards the success of the Lagos State Public Service.
He also lauded the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC) for its continued efforts in providing support and guidance to public servants approaching retirement.
“The aim is to always provide our esteemed retiring officers with comprehensive information and assistance that will guide them in experiencing a stress-free retirement documentation process,” Agoro stated.
Reassuring attendees, Agoro underscored the government’s commitment to the welfare of retired public servants, noting that the Lagos State Government prioritised the prompt processing and remittance of retirement benefits, provided that all documentation was in order.
“Be assured that the administration of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu places a huge premium on your welfare and well-being, just as it does for those still in active service,” he added.
Agoro encouraged participants to engage fully in the seminar, stressing the importance of asking questions to gain clarity on the processes involved in remitting their retirement benefits.
In his welcome address, the Director-General of LASPEC, Mr Babalola Obinala, emphasised the significance of the seminar, which he said marked an important milestone in the professional journey of the retiring officers.

Obinala acknowledged that retirement represented a new chapter in life, filled with opportunities for personal growth and fulfilment.
He outlined key aspects of the retirement process to be covered during the seminar, such as the necessary documentation, timelines, and available resources.
“Your engagement is vital, not only for your benefit but also for enhancing our services as we learn from your experiences,” Obinala said, encouraging attendees to ask questions and share their concerns throughout the seminar.
