AFCON QUALIFIER: Ghana Prepares for important Clash Against Sudan

by admin

After a rocky start to their campaign, the Black Stars of Ghana face a crucial encounter against Sudan with everything still to play for. Despite mixed results so far—an opening loss, a 1-1 draw with Niger, and a goalless stalemate against Sudan—Coach Otto Addo remains optimistic ahead of the return leg.

The task is clear: Ghana must win to keep their qualification hopes alive. With Angola’s recent victory over Niger tightening the group standings, a win against Sudan would propel the Black Stars into second place, setting them firmly on course for qualification.

Coach Addo: “It’s Still in Our Hands”

Speaking ahead of the game, Coach Addo stressed the importance of staying focused and building on the team’s performances in recent matches.  “I think it’s good Angola won against Niger, and now the situation is still in our hands. We need to win this match tomorrow, and once we are second, I think we all know and have seen that we can beat all of those teams we’ve played against,” Addo said confidently.

Despite the two draws—most notably the frustrating 0-0 result against Sudan—Addo highlighted the dominant displays the team showed, especially in midfield control and attacking intent. “We had control of the match, created chances, and just need to be more clinical.”

With just a few matches left, Ghana knows that anything less than a win could jeopardize their qualifying hopes. The squad has shown flashes of brilliance in their recent outings, but missed chances and lapses in concentration have cost them valuable points. However, there is belief within the camp that they can turn things around.

The return fixture against Sudan offers a chance for redemption.

With Angola now firmly in the mix, Ghana’s path to qualification has become more complicated, but not impossible. Winning against Sudan would place them second in the group, giving them control of their own destiny as they head into the final stretch.

For Ghana’s passionate supporters, nothing less than victory will suffice. The Black Stars have built a proud legacy over the years, and the match against Sudan offers an opportunity to reignite that spirit.

The players know what is at stake, and Coach Addo’s message is clear: Victory is non-negotiable if the Black Stars want to keep their qualification dreams alive.

As Ghana prepares to step onto the pitch, one thing is certain: “everything is still in their hands”—and the Sudan’s  game will define their journey.
