AFCON 2025Q: CAF BEGINS INVESTIGATION AGAINST LIBYA OVER SUPER EAGLES DELAY

The Libyan-Nigerian dispute has prompted an investigation by the Confederation of African Football.

On the fourth day of the 2025 African Cup of Nations qualifier, the Super Eagles of Nigeria were scheduled to play the Mediterranean Knights.

However, it appears that the match has been cancelled due to Libya’s mistreatment of the Nigerian team. The football association opened an inquiry into the situation on Monday.

“The Confederation Africaine de Football (CAF) has been in contact with the Libyan and Nigerian authorities after it had been informed that the Nigerian National Football Team (‘’Super Eagles’’) and their technical team were stranded in disturbing conditions for several hours at an airport that they were allegedly instructed to land by the Libyan authorities”.

The matter has been referred to the CAF Disciplinary Board for investigation and appropriate action will be taken against those who violated the CAF Statutes and Regulations”, the statement said.

The Super Eagles were suddenly routed to Al Abraq Airport, more than two hours away from their scheduled location, while travelling to Benghazi for their 2025 AFCON qualifier versus Libya.

The Libyan Football Federation failed to provide any transportation for the Nigerian contingent upon their arrival, leaving them stranded for over thirteen hours.
