The Ogun State Government has issued a stern warning to the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) against actions that could disrupt peace and order in the state.
In a statement over the weekend, the government expressed its concerns over reports that some NURTW members in Ijebu Ode were planning to protest decisions made by the union’s leadership.
The protest, allegedly aimed at challenging the leadership’s authority, could lead to violence, the government warned.
Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, stated that the government would not stand idly by while the state’s hard-earned peace is jeopardised.
He cautioned that the government might restrict the union’s activities in public spaces if there is any threat to public safety.
“It has come to the attention of the Ogun State Ministry of Transportation that some members of the NURTW in Ijebu Ode are opposing the decisions of their leadership and intend to resort to violence,” the statement read.
He further reminded union members of their responsibility to operate within the framework of the law and to handle disputes through proper channels rather than resorting to unrest.
He said the government, led by Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, would not tolerate any disturbances that could endanger lives or property in the state.
The commissioner also emphasised that public parks and garages are public assets meant for the safety and convenience of all citizens, not the exclusive domain of any private group.

He reiterated that the government would not hesitate to take strong measures, including limiting union activities, if public peace or security is threatened.
