The Lagos State Head of Service, Bode Agoro, has urged leaders within the public service to enhance collaboration and inclusivity among their teams across the various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies of the State.

Agoro conveyed this message in an address delivered on his behalf by the Permanent Secretary of the Public Service Office, Mrs. Sunkanmi Oyegbola, during the opening ceremony of a two-day management staff retreat themed “Harnessing a Stronger Team for the Future,” organised by the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency.

He stressed that effective leadership is crucial for steering any organisation towards success in today’s rapidly evolving and complex environment.

Agoro said leaders must adopt a transformative approach, fostering collaboration and collectiveness to navigate workplace complexities and inspire their teams to realise their full potential, thus enabling informed decision-making within their organisations.

The Head of Service encouraged the Agency to persist in building a formidable team, allowing it to achieve its mission and objectives.

“By embracing diverse perspectives, we foster innovation and cultivate a culture of trust and engagement, leading everyone to perceive themselves as stakeholders and promoting collective investment in the Agency’s growth,” he stated.

Agoro reiterated the current Administration’s commitment to the continuous capacity building of its workforce, ensuring they remain competent, versatile, and relevant to the present and future needs of the State.

He urged participants to take full advantage of the retreat to develop themselves further and enhance their capacity for excellence in public service delivery.

In his welcome address, the Director-General of the Agency, Fatai Idowu Onafowote, mentioned that the retreat is part of the Agency’s initiatives to continually re-orientate and build participants’ capacity for the leadership roles and responsibilities they are expected to undertake.

Onafowote added that the activity reports and work plans of the Agency’s various departments and units would undergo objective critique to improve service delivery capacity and ensure the Agency remains innovative and responsive to its operating environment.
