The Nasarawa State Police Command says it will prosecute three suspected armed robbers terrorising the Maraba community and other environs in the state.

The suspects, according to a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Rahman Nansel, on Sunday, were arrested on Wednesday when they attempted to rob a residential building in Yelwa Road in the Karu Local Government Area of the state.

Nansel noted that the police, upon receiving information about the activity of the suspects, launched an investigation which led to the suspects’ arrest.

He said, “Based on credible information, police operatives attached to the Mararaba ‘A’ Division have arrested the trio of Salim Hussaini, 22, Abdulkadir Musa, 20, and Dimas Danja, 24, all males, of Yelwa Road, Aso Pada, Karu LGA of Nasarawa State where one locally fabricated rifle, a knife and criminal charms were recovered from the suspects as exhibits.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects had on 02/10/2024 at about 2240hrs stormed a residential building in Yelwa Village Road, Aso Pada, to carry out their nefarious activity but met stiff resistance and fled.

“The police were contacted, and an investigation was launched into the case which led to the subsequent arrest of the criminals. They have confessed to belonging to a gang of armed robbers terrorising Mararaba and its environs.”

He noted that they would be prosecuted according to the law.

In a related incident, Nansel noted that following credible intelligence, the command also arrested a suspected car thief while attempting to sell a stolen car.

He said that the police stormed the location of the criminals and upon sighting the police, the criminal gang took to their heels but one of them, Mohammed Abubakar, was arrested while other members of the gang escaped.

“Similarly, on Saturday, at 1400hrs, actionable intelligence at the disposal of police detectives attached to the New Karu Area Command revealed that one Mohammed Aliyu Abubakar ‘M’ of Mabushi, FCT Abuja and three others were in possession of a blue Toyota Camry with registration number RBC 980 DA suspected to have been stolen, and were in search of a buyer.

“Responding swiftly to the intercept, the detectives stormed the location of the criminals who took to flight on sighting the police but luck ran out of the above-mentioned suspect. He was arrested and the vehicle recovered to the station.”

The PPRO however urged the owner of the stolen vehicle to visit the command to claim ownership.

“The Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada, has called on the owner of the stolen vehicle to visit New Karu Area Command with proof of ownership to claim the recovered vehicle,” Nansel concluded.
