LG polls: Imo SDP rejects results, threatens legal action

by admin

The Social Democratic Party, SDP, Imo State chapter has declared its readiness to challenge in court the outcome of the just concluded local government elections that took place across the 27 local council areas and 305 wards.

The party also condemned in its entirety the procedure in which the election was conducted, accusing the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission, ISIEC, of undermining the guidelines of the process to favour the APC-led administration.

This was captured in a petition sent to ISIEC by the State Chairman of the party, Ifeanyi Henry Eluwa and made available to the media in Owerri.

Eluwa stated that no election took place in any polling unit in Imo State, regretting the claim by ISIEC that there was election.

The SDP State Chairman said that the nation was eroding with bad leadership under the APC-led administration, vowing that the party would challenge the outcome of the LG polls allegedly rigged by the APC in court.

“ISIEC failed to officially demand for and or release form ISIEC DF001 and ISIEC DF002 to the qualified candidates.

“The Commission failed to publish the list of qualified candidates in the constituency where the candidate intends to contest the election.

“The persons and their party declared winner were at the time not qualified to contest the election. The election was invalidated by reasons of corrupt practices and non-compliance with provisions of the law,” he stated.
