Nigerian military leads rescue efforts in flood-hit Maiduguri

by admin

The Nigerian military is conducting rescue missions to save those trapped by the devastating floods in Maiduguri.

Women and children are among those being rescued from the affected areas.

According to Zagazola Makama, a publication focused on counter-insurgency in the Lake Chad region on X.com on Thursday, the Nigerian Red Cross, Borno branch, is providing emergency aid and first aid to flood victims and managing the recovery of deceased individuals.

The flooding, which occurred on Tuesday, forced thousands of residents to flee their homes in Fori, Galtimari, Gwange, and Bulabulin areas of Maiduguri. The disaster was triggered by the collapse of the Alau Dam, which had been at full capacity for a week. Notably, the dam last collapsed on September 13, 1994, displacing approximately 400,000 residents.
