The Kano State Police Command, on Monday, confirmed that it arrested no fewer than 873 suspects so far for alleged robbery, kidnapping, and other crimes during the just-concluded nationwide protests.

All the suspects, who were detained from across the state, were paraded before newsmen on Monday at the command’s  Bompai.

The Commissioner of Police, Salma Dogo, who made the disclosure, said the arrests were made possible through the command’s efforts to maintain law and order, as well as prevent crime, and protect citizens’ rights to peaceful protest.

He said the command arrested 600 suspects for various offences during the nationwide protests in different parts of the state and also arrested 150 suspects for violating the curfew, six suspects linked to masterminding destruction and looting at the Kano State Printing Press.

“We have also arrested 76 suspects flying the Russian flag, including a foreigner who is a tailor, and recovered two AK-47 rifles and other substantial properties.

“Similarly, we arrested two suspected kidnappers, five suspected armed robbers, and eight suspected car thieves, as well as recovered one Beretta pistol.”

Also, the CP disclosed that the command rescued 13 trafficking victims, adding that the suspects would be charged in court as soon as investigations were concluded.

In addition, Dogo appealed to the public to provide intelligence information toward apprehending suspected criminals.

“The command will continue to collaborate with other security agencies to proactively address all forms of security threats,” he assured.
