The 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) draw has set up an intriguing Group C, featuring Ghana’s Black Queens, defending champions South Africa, Tanzania, and Mali. With all four teams bringing distinct styles and ambitions, the group is already being touted as one of the most competitive in the tournament.
The Black Queens return to the continental stage with high hopes of reclaiming their glory. Despite their illustrious history, Ghana has yet to win the Women’s AFCON, finishing as runners-up on three occasions.
Under the leadership of head coach Nora Häuptle, the Queens have shown promise in their recent matches, blending youthful energy with the experience of players like Portia Boakye and Evelyn Badu.
“The draw is tough, but we are confident in our abilities. This is an opportunity to show the world that Ghanaian women’s football is on the rise,” Häuptle said after the draw.
