There has been a call for capital punishment for those involved in vandalizing critical National Infrastructure and assets in Nigeria.

The president of a group under the aegis of Vision-One Leadership Development Initiative (VOLDI), Emmanuel Johnny made the call at their 2024 Edition of Youth, Civil Society and Stakeholder Summit.

The summit was about curbing the destruction and Vandalization of Telecom, Forest, Power, Oil and Gas among other National Infrastructure.

He also called on the National Assembly to fast tract the execution of those sentenced to be executed.

In his paper presentation on the challenges militating Customs Service, Civil Society Organizations and Youth synergy with the Nigerian Navy in the protection of Nigeria’s Maritime Domain (NMD), Commodore Humphrey Oriekezie who represented the Nigerian Navy at the conference explained that lack of awareness about the importance of maritime security has rendered many people in these groups not to fully understand the potential risks and threats to Nigeria’s maritime domain and the importance of collaboration with the Navy to address these issues.

Also speaking, Director, Public Relations and Strategic Communications, Department of State Services (DSS), Dr. Peter Afunanya called on Nigerians to rise and collectively make efforts to protect the infrastructure provided by the government. He urged citizens to support the government of the day by reporting useful information to the appropriate authority. He also cautioned against killing of security personnel.
