The Supreme Court on Friday delivered eight different Judgement bothering on disputes from the 2023 Governorship Election in some states of the Federation.
The Apex Court in its unanimous judgements reinstated three Governors, Kano, Zamfara and Plataeu States, that were earlier sacked by the Court
The Appeals were fallout of the March 18th Governorship Election in Nigeria. After the determination of the matters by the Election Petition Tribunal and Appeal Courts, appellants not satisfied with the outcome, approached the Supreme Court for final determination of their cases.
The Appeals which were laid to rest today were from Lagos, Bauchi, Kano, Zamfara, Ebonyi, Abia, Plataeu and Cross Rivers.
For Lagos and Bauchi states, the Supreme Court dismissed the Appeal by the Labour party and Peoples Democratic party and upheld the election of Babajide Sanwoolu. Also, the Apex court also upheld the victory of Governor Bala Muhammed of Bauchi state.
For Kano State, the Supreme Court it’s unanimous judgement allowed the Appeal of Governor Abba Yusuf of the New Nigerian Peoples Party while the court also upheld the Election Victory of Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State.
The eight-member panel dismissed the appeal filed by Chukwuma Odii of the Peoples Democratic Party, from Ebonyi state while it also resolved all five issues raised against the appellant. Also in the Appeal from Plataeu State, the Court set aside the judgement of the Appeal court and upheld the judgement of the Tribunal which upheld the victory of Governor of Caleb Mutfwang,
For Abia State, the Apex court dismissed the Appeal and upheld the judgement of the lower court and for Cross Rivers State, the Court also upheld the election of Bassey Otu as the governor of the State.
Some of the counsels lauded the dexterity of the Judges adding that they have upheld the decisions of the electorates.
