VIDEO: NLC, TUC rejects FG’s #48,000 minimum wage

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) has expressed disappointment over the #48,000 minimum wage proposed by the Federal Government, saying that the wage proposal is insensible and significantly short in meeting the needs of the Nigerian workers.

The President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero and the Vice President of Trade Union Congress, Tommy Etim made the assertion in a media conference immediately after the National Minimum Wage Negotiation with the Federal Government in Abuja on Wednesday.

The Union Leader said Government’s failure to provide any substantiated data to support their offer exacerbates the situation, adding that the proposed amount lack of transparency and good faith, undermines the credibility of the negotiation process and erodes trust between the parties involved.

They called on Federal Government to reconsider its position and come to the negotiation table with clear hands that reflects the true value of the contributions made by Nigerian workers
to the nation’s development and the objective socioeconomic realities that confronts not just Nigerian workers but Nigerians today as a result of the policies of the federal government.
