VIDEO: Nigeria Losing Billions to fuel smuggling – Customs Boss

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reported major achievements through Operation Whirld wind, an initiative launched to combat fuel smuggling across Nigeria.

Within two weeks, the operation has yielded notable results, particularly in Adamawa state.

Addressing the press in Yola on Monday, the Controller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, highlighted the alarming rise in fuel smuggling as the impetus for the operation.

Collaborating closely with the National Security Adviser’s office, Operation Whirlwind aims to enforce the benefits of fuel price deregulation, defend the national currency, and mitigate smuggling-related pressures.

Adeniyi outlined the objectives of Operation Whirlwind: as dismantling smuggling cartels, raising community awareness, and securing local support.

The Executive Director of the Nigeria National Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Ogbugo Ukoha, lauded the collaborative efforts of the NSA office and Customs officials in thwarting illegal fuel importation.

Operation Whirlwind continues to demonstrate the Nigerian government’s commitment to combating fuel smuggling and ensuring economic stability.
