The high level of corruption was described as the main cause of what has bedeviled Nigeria into a country of insecurity and a backward economy.

For these reasons, the Methodist Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Rt Dr Ishaya Kunama said he has stopped praying for Nigeria out of corruption because the country is damaged beyond control.

The revered Bishop said this while a contributor to the dialogue session of the Arewa New Agenda (ANA) organized to talk about poverty in Northern Nigeria.

Kunama said what is doing now is prayers is what can he do for Nigeria to be better not praying for the country to be better because he has done that for many years without results.

He called on participants who are imminent Nigerians from the North to use the arable lands in the North to Create wealth.

Some of the participants include Mahmud Yayale CFR, former secretary to the Government of the Federation, former Governor of Bauchi, Isa Yugudu, former Governor of Zamfara, Ahmed Sani, Yeriman Bukura, former Major Leader, Senator Jonathan Zwingina, the Convener, Distinguished Senator Ahmad Abubakar Moallayidi, Sheikh Khalid Nurudeen and many attended the one day follow on the conference; tackling poverty in Northern Nigeria.

Bishop Kunama while addressing participants stressed the need for Youth empowerment and the provision of Short loans to local farmers.

He called on Northern Business tycoons, and captains of industries to invest much in the region by building companies and industries.

He worried that corruption has caged the region and the only thing to do is to face the reality and put all hands on the desks to push it out not by words of prayers alone.
