VIDEO: FG partners World Bank to fight Unemployment

The Federal Government is collaborating with the World Bank to fight youth unemployment in the country.

The federal ministry of education, speaking through the Director, Technology and Science Education, Dr. (Mrs) Muyibat Olodo at a stakeholders workshop in Abuja restated the government support for acquisition of functional technical and vocational skills’ development in order to boost entrepreneurship and employment.

 

Tne one-day stakeholders workshop was organised by Federal Ministry Education in collaboration with Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills, (IDEAS) an initiative of the Work Bank.

 

Olodo said the high rate of unemployment resulting from the negative impact of youth restiveness and extensive destruction of the nation’s economy was one of the major challenges currently confronting the education sector and the entire nation.

National Coordinator IDEAS project, Mrs Blessing Ugwu, explained that the workshop aims at enhancing the capacity of the Nigerian skill development system to produce relevant skills for both the formal and informal sectors of the economy..

When the government at all levels in Nigeria is committed to addressing youth unemployment, they must acknowledge the role of investment in education as the greatest and most sustainable way to tackle unemployment.
