In the quest to achieve gender equality and reduce poverty in Nigeria, The She Tank and BellaNaija have joined forces to launch the Her Money, Her Power campaign, which will advocate for more economic power for Nigerian women.

The campaign which kicked off earlier in the month is calling attention to the gender norms preventing women from acquiring economic power and emphasizes the importance of changing those norms for the benefit of women, their families, communities, and society at large.

Despite a notable increase in women’s representation in senior roles in government and the private sector in recent times, Nigeria placed 125th out of 146 countries ranked in the World Economic Forum’s 2024 Global Gender Gap Index, which measures economic participation and opportunity among other indices.

Leveraging the power of media and entertainment to engender social change, the campaign will feature a compelling segment on the ongoing Big Brother Naija reality show, a digital campaign with creative content on BellaNaija’s platforms, and a powerful ad that will run across both the Multichoice network and BellaNaija’s digital channels.

The campaign’s messaging will include the need for women to achieve economic empowerment as a precursor to gender equality, the characteristics of economically empowered women, the necessary shift in gender norms to enable women’s economic advancement, and the resulting benefits to their families, communities, and society at large.
The She Tank, a creative think-tank for gender equality recently relaunched by Blessing Omakwu, focuses on projects/initiatives intersecting gender equality, popular culture, and religion. Founded in 2006, BellaNaija is Africa’s leading lifestyle, media, and entertainment company. It reaches 11M+ people across its digital platforms, creating conversations, celebrating progress, and driving positive change.

Use #HerMoneyHerPower to amplify your voice on all platforms and create a ripple effect of positive impact. Follow the campaign on BellaNaija’s website and social media platforms (@bellanaija) to stay informed, inspired, and involved.
