At the Moses Mabhida Stadium, RS Berkane defeated South African debutants Stellenbosch 3-1 in a clinical display to keep up their undefeated start in Group B.
With Youssef Zghoudi scoring two headers in the fifth and fifteenth minutes, respectively, thanks to accurate crosses from Youssef Mehri and Ayoub Khairi, Berkane established the tone early on.
Stellenbosch put forth a strong effort, but they were unable to take advantage of their opportunities.
The hosts’ torturous evening came to a close when Andre de Jong struck the post in the 30th minute.
Reda Hajji’s incredible long-range goal struck the top corner in the 83rd minute, leaving Stellenbosch’s custodian frozen to the spot and giving Berkane a further lead.
With his goal in the 87th minute, Chumani Butsaka gave the home team a glimmer of hope, but it was too little, too late.
Berkane leads the group with six points from two games, while Stellenbosch is rooted to the bottom of Group B with zero points after their second straight defeat.
