Supplementary Elections: Low Turnout In Rivers State (Video)

The Nigerian House of Representatives supplementary election in Port Harcourt Federal Constituency 2 in Rivers State has been characterized by low turnout of voters.

The electoral officers arrived early with the materials but very few persons cast their votes.

In the Port Harcourt City local government area where supplementary elections were held in 377 polling units in Wards 5, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16,17 and 18, it was observed that there were low turnout of voters.

The election environment was peaceful and orderly with the presence of Security agencies.

Some of the voters, who spoke with swifteradio.com attributed the voter apathy to doubts over the transparent conduct of the elections.

A Presiding Officer of Unit 77, Daniel Sukuye, said voting commenced in his unit by 8:30 a.m. but only few persons had voted maybe due to inadequate sensitisation of voters

The Independent National Electoral Commission suspended elections conducted for two National Assembly seats in Rivers State over irregularities.

The affected polls were those for the PHALGA 2 House of Representatives and the Rivers South East Senatorial District held on Feb, 25 2023.
