VIDEO: Seun Kuti on Youths in Nigeria’s Democracy

Afrobeat star, Seun Kuti was a guest on News Central TV’s Breakfast Show Wednesday.

These are some of the things he said.

* The future of Nigeria is in the hands of young professionals. They should understand their power.
*The young professionals have been used against their people. The elite class manipulates youths.
*Young Nigerian professionals should align with the people and not the elites. They should open the eyes of the people to the manipulation by the elite class.
*He discussed the last presidential elections and the transition from the Muhamadu Buhari government to the Bola Tinubu administration. He said many Nigerians felt that Nigerians got from one Bus to another ” But the truth is that we never got off the Bus, the politicians are all the same regardless of their political parties or their political divides.

*The Leaders and elites decide that tribalism should play a big role in our polity. Tribalism does not play a part in the corporate world and things work there, so why can’t we as Nigerians stop tribalism and make things work for the country?
*Zoning is applied among the elite class. It holds no water when the people are involved in the running of the government.

*” I don’t have any hope in the ruling class of this country, they have not done anything to show that they care for the people. Look at the 2024 budget, there is no difference from past budgets”
*The security services are not well equipped to protect the people, so insecurity has risen exponentially in the country.
*The security people have to be retrained to know that they are not an occupying force. This mindset is a carryover from the colonial era when the Police and Army were established to protect the British and oppress the Nigerian people. They should be trained to know that they are not there to protect the elites but the people.

Seun Kuti called on the youths to take their destinies into their own hands for a better future.
