The World Health Organization (WHO) defines maternal mortality as the death of a woman while pregnant or within 42 days of termination of pregnancy, irrespective of the duration and site of the pregnancy, from any cause related to or aggravated by the pregnancy or its management but not from accidental or incidental causes.
DopeReporters gathered that a new data management system has been developed by the Oyo state government and some development partners.
The system was produced to reduce deaths from Malaria in pregnant women in Oyo State, Southwest Nigeria.
According to a United Nations report, in sub Saharan Africa, a woman has a 1-in-16 chance of dying during pregnancy or childbirth due to malaria complications and Nigeria accounts for about 20% of global maternal deaths with a maternal mortality ratio of 800 deaths per 100,000 live births.
This meeting of experts and stakeholders is part of a capacity development program designed to provide digital skills for health workers.
It seeks to digitize the healthcare delivery system in Oyo state. It would also supervise, support and motivate Care Providers in hard to reach communities.
The health officials said they have designed a new data management system to reduce malaria mortality in pregnant women in Oyo State.
The meeting also featured the presentation of the impact health dashboard and the donation of health commodities to selected zones across the state.
The focus here is to reduce the waiting time at health facilities and to encourage women and girls to access more primary healthcare facilities. Officials also aim to provide real time availability of data to strengthen the quality of health decisions at local and state levels.
There’s also an emphasis
on family planning and immunization to boost the quality of healthcare services to residents of Oyo state.
