President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signaled his readiness to reshuffle his cabinet, urging ministers to become more visible in communicating their achievements to the public.

At a press briefing at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday, Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, lamented that much of the government’s work remains unknown to Nigerians due to poor communication.

He emphasised the need for ministers to engage with the media and the public to showcase the achievements of their ministries.

“I don’t have any specific timeline, but the president has expressed his desire to reshuffle his cabinet, and he will do it. Whether it will happen before October 1, I cannot say. But it will surely happen. He has made his intentions clear,” Onanuga said.

Speculations have grown since early June over the president’s plans to reshuffle his cabinet to better address the country’s current challenges but until yesterday, the presidency had remained tight-lipped on the issue.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Digital and New Media, O’tega Ogra, added that the president’s decision would be based on periodic reviews of the ministers’ performance.

“During the retreat for ministers, the president mentioned that their work would be periodically reviewed, and decisions would be made based on those reviews. He has already received several reports, and when the time comes, he will act,” Ogra said.

Speaking on the administration’s overall performance, Onanuga explained that President Tinubu had instructed all ministers during the last Federal Executive Council meeting to publicise their activities.

Onanuga also addressed the country’s economic situation, expressing optimism about ongoing improvements.

He added that the impact may not be immediate, “but we can already see the light at the end of the tunnel. People will soon start to feel the positive effects in various facets of the economy.”
