Nigeria picks Africa’s slot to 2025 Cricket U19 World Cup

Nigeria made history as they qualified for the ICC Under-19 Women’s World Cup in Malaysia 2025 after going unscathed in their qualifying campaign at the just concluded tournament in Kigali Rwanda.

Nigeria defeated Tanzania, Zimbabwe and Malawi in the group games before setting up a pulsating encounter against host country Rwanda in the Semi-Finals.

Breezing through the fixture with brilliance and determination, Nigeria was faced once more with Test Playing Nation Zimbabwe in the final to decide the only qualification slot for the World Cup.

Nigeria Under-19 Female Cricket Team

Not the batting performance the girls had expected as Nigeria finished with 77 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the first innings.

In the second innings, Zimbabwe raced to 19 runs for the loss of 1 wicket in 2.3 overs before the ‘Duke of Spain’ visited to draw the curtains on the tournament in the most fascinating, yet satisfying end for Nigeria.

This means that Nigeria wins the tournament as winners of Group B, head-to-head victory against Zimbabwe in the group stage and going unbeaten throughout the tournament.

For the World Cup proper, Nigeria has been drawn in Group C alongside New Zealand, South Africa and Samoa.

The Junior Female Yellow Greens are expected to return to the country on Tuesday, 1st of October 2024.
