Hippopotamus kills Kebbi emir’s guard

A guard, Malam Usman Maigadi, at an orchard owned by the Emir of Yauri in Kebbi State, Dr Muhammad Zayyanu-Abdullahi, has been killed by a hippopotamus.

It was gathered that the animal might have perceived the victim as coming to harm its baby.

The late Maiyaki, who was 60 years old, was attacked on Sunday by the animal while fishing in the Yauri River in Tillo village in Yauri LGA.

The Chairman of Yauri LGA, Alhaji Abubakar Shu’aibu, said, “Maiyaki has been buried according Islamic rites in Yauri.”

The Governor of Kebbi State, Nasir Idris, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Alhaji Ahmed Idris, condoled with the Yauri Emirate and the family of the deceased. (NAN)
