Gov Inuwa lauds Emir of Gombe’s appointment as Chancellor, Micheal Okpara varsity

President Bola Tinubu has been applauded for appointing the Emir of Gombe, Dr Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III as the Chancellor of the Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture, Emudike, Abia State.

The commendation was made by the Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya who expressed his gratitude to the President over the appointment.

Inuwa Yahaya described the appointment of the Gombe paramount ruler as an honour to the people of Gombe Emirate and the State as a whole.

The Governor made the comments when he received an audience, the Pro-Chancellor and Members of the Governing Council of the University at the Government House on Friday.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, the Governor noted that the appointment will further deepen and strengthen the bond between the South and Northern parts of the country.

He added Gombe State Government will encourage qualified students seeking admission into higher institutions to apply to the Micheal Okpara University.

The Governor assured the Governing Council of the Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture that the Emir of Gombe is a versatile and dynamic leader who will deploy his wealth of experience towards the advancement of academic excellence in the institution.

He also advised the Board to work as a team for the development and progress of the institution.

Earlier speaking, the Pro-Chancecellor, Comrade Fidelis Edeh said that they were in the State to familiarize themselves with the University’s Chancellor and Emir of Gombe HRH Dr Abubakar Shehu Abubakar III.

He expressed appreciation to the Chancellor, Government and people of Gombe State for their warm hospitality expressing confidence in the capacity and capability of the Emir of Gombe to deliver on his mandate.

He stressed the need for students of Gombe State origin and the north as a whole to patronize the university for better integration with those from the south so as to strengthen the unity and oneness of Nigeria and ensure the institution’s readiness to offer admission to qualified candidates.

Among the Board members, is Honourable Daniel Timothy Burak who hails from Gombe State as contained in a statement by Joshua Danmallam, Information Officer, SSG’s office.
