Flood: Adamawa Commences Distribution of Critical Flood Readiness Prevention Items

In a proactive measure to mitigate the impact of potential flooding, the Adamawa State Government, through the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) and the Adamawa Multi-Sectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP), has begun the immediate distribution of essential flood readiness prevention items. This initiative is supported by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), as well as the state Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, Reintegration, Humanitarian Services, and the Ministry of Environment. The distribution targets communities identified as being at risk across the 11 frontline local government areas.

The Adamawa State Government emphasized that this effort is part of a comprehensive three-pronged containment strategy designed to protect vulnerable populations. This strategy not only includes the distribution of critical support items but also involves community sensitization and engagement activities aimed at raising awareness about flood preparedness. Furthermore, safe locations are being prepared in advance to provide shelter for those affected by flooding when it occurs.

To ensure effective response and preparedness, the Executive Secretary of ADSEMA and NEMA are serving as joint incident commanders, overseeing the implementation of these critical measures and coordinating efforts among various stakeholders involved in flood management.
