FHA begins energy distribution, targets renewables, others

The Federal Housing Authority (FHA) has said it is venturing into the energy distribution value chain with the commencement of operations of its subsidiary, FHA Energy Distribution Limited (FHA EDL).

The Chairman of FHA, EDL, Hon Oyetunde Oladimeji Ojo, made the disclosure on Wednesday at the Commissioning of the company’s head office in Abuja.

According to Hon Ojo, “FHA identified one of the challenges in the country aside from affordable housing which is energy to ensure that the distribution chain is strengthened.

“The FHA Energy Distribution Limited has already concluded arrangements and license procedure with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and will commence energy distribution to all its estates across the country numbering about 50.

“Also, we are not only looking at the distribution of power from the national grid but we will also be looking at other renewables like wind power and even sewage, because the idea is not only power from the grid and subsequently from supplying to our estates, we will expand,” he said.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of FHA EDL, Engr. Kabir Musa Umar, noted that the plan to deliver reliable, sustainable and innovative energy solutions to the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) estates and Nigerians.

Speaking on sustainability and addressing the issue of energy theft, the MD said company will deploy censored meters to checkmate energy theft.
