Ex-Lagos NUJ chairman, Akinreti, loses father

PA Mudathir Oladepo Akinreti is dead. He was the father of Dr Qasim Akinreti, Deputy Director, Digital Media, Voice of Nigeria (VON).

In a statement, Dr Akinreti, a former chairman of the Lagos State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), said his father died in his sleep at the age of 90 in his Ile-Ife, Osun State home last Saturday and has since been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.

According to the statement, Pa Akinreti, a devout member of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at Nigeria, is survived by 14 children led by Mrs Fatimah Haruna of the Ogun state Cooperative Federation headquartered in Abeokuta, and grandchildren.

“Pa Akinreti was a road transport businessman for about 40 years  and a former treasurer of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Agodi-Gate branch, Ibadan, Oyo State.

“He was a politician in the first republic under the umbrella of United Nigeria Democratic Party (UNDP),” the statement said.
