As the annual Eid Kabir festival approaches, the cost of rams in Yola, Adamawa State, has skyrocketed, making it difficult for the average person to afford this essential part of the celebration.
Eid El Kabir, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, comemorates the story of Prophet Ibrahim (A.S.), who was commanded by Almighty Allah to sacrifice his son Ismael. At the moment of sacrifice, Allah, in His wisdom, provided a ram to take Ismael’s place.
In Yola, the anticipation of the festival is overshadowed by the soaring prices of rams. Yusuf Bello, chairman of the Tabitaal Pulaaku Njode Jam Foundation, has called on ram sellers to consider the financial strain on buyers and to conduct their business with fairness and compassion, reminding them that worldly gains are fleeting.
Reporting from Yola, Ibrahim Abubakar highlights the community’s struggle to balance tradition with economic realities as they prepare for this significant religious event.
