Climate Change:
What Should Be Africa’s Main Focus? – Martin Register

Africa is expected to be the focus of most of the world’s population growth in this century.

Still recovering from centuries of exploitation and the political instability that accompanies it, Africa may be in a unique position to move toward sustainably.

With much of the continent still dealing with little or unreliable power and clean water still difficult to come by in many areas, Africa has the opportunity to put into place a sustainable energy grid as it develops its resources.

Because it is less developed than other continents for the most part, Africa contributes fewer greenhouse gases to the atmosphere than any of its sister continents.

With careful planning and proper implementation, it can keep that distinction while developing its economies and bringing good jobs and necessary services to its people as its population grows over the coming decades.

Martin Register is a former journalist. He studied climate change and urban planning.
