This week, a former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, found himself at the centre of a controversy over his reported visit to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) amid allegation of money laundering.

Also, a former military head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar and General Theophilus Danjuma (retd),ex-Chief of Army Staff, voiced their concerns over the rising hardship and insecurity plaguing the country.

On the global front, President Bola Tinubu returned from foreign trips, choosing to focus on domestic issues, while the director-general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO),Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, confirmed her intention to seek a second term to address “unfinished business” at the trade body.

The week also saw prominent figures like John Cardinal Onaiyekan calling for economic policy reviews to alleviate Nigeria’s deepening poverty.
