Bandits gun down 2 vigilantes, steal food stuffs in Kaduna

Bandits have gunned down two vigilante members and stolen food stuffs at Gidan -Kaura community in Kachia LGA of Kaduna State.

A vigilante member from the area, simply identified as Ayuba, said the incident happened on Saturday around 5pm when the bandits invaded a Fulani settlement and attempted to rustle some cows.

He said the vigilantes, upon receiving distress calls, mobilised from neighbouring Aturu and Mai -Iddo villages to engage the bandits.

He said the bandits, who were carrying pump action guns, killed two of the vigilantes, even as he said the bandits later fled after bullets could not penetrate some of the vigilantes.

According to him, the fleeing bandits raided some shops at the neighbouring Aturu village and carted away food stuff.

A community leader from the area confirmed the incident, saying the bandits, in their large number, wielding AK-47 rifles invaded the community in order to rustle cows but were foiled by the vigilantes.

He added that, ‘’But unfortunately, two among the vigilantes died during the encounter with the bandits, while some of the bandits fled to neighboring Aturu village and stole some foodstuffs.”
