ANCOPSS lauds AGILE intervention in training of Sokoto school principals

The All Nigerian Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS) in Sokoto State has commended the intervention of Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) intervention on training of school principals in record keeping and data collection.

The President of ANCOPSS in the state, Muhammed Abubakar, said the intervention of AGILE in training school principals on record keeping is coming up at the right time, especially for the newly appointed school principals in the state.

“Many of our principals are newly appointed are not used to school records and census, but with this training for our principals, I am very sure that they can now handle the school records effectively.

“We have many records that are supposed to be kept by principals, the vice principals and other teachers. With this training, I can assure you that all our principals will be able to handle the records effectively.”

Speaking on the area of data, Abubakar, whom is also the school principal of Sultan Abubakar College said, “if you don’t have anything to give out you can not give, so with this training, we can be able to generate accurate and correct data which will help in planning for both ministry of education, state government and the nation’s at large for our schools.”

He further said the training is already being extended to teachers in most of the school to ensure the training is stepped down accordingly so as to achieve it’s purpose.

Also speaking in one of the three locations of the training, the secretary of ANCOPSS in the state, Musa Suleiman Mabera, said the workshop has a great impact to all the school principals in the state as it will help to technically develop our capability in the area of education.

“The workshop serve as means of making the participants knowledgeable about school record keeping and it will definitely boost their morale.”

He called for more intervention to help them move to greater heights.

Also, one of the facilitator in one of the centre, Hajia Lami Mukhtar, said the training is about the school records for head teachers and head of schools in the state.

Muhtkar who is also the Director of Junior Secondary School, SUBEB, said the training is more or less like a refreshing one to enable them get use to what they already known which she said is very important to the school.

She however called for such training to be extended to others such as admission officers, bursar, examination officers among others within the schools

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Abdullahi Usman, said the school records training is a program that is long awaited.

He said school records keeping is one of the major challenges affecting education in the state and with the coming of AGILE in this perspective, it is a new beginning in schools.

“We commend AGILE for organizing such kind of training for the schools which enable all directors of the ministry to be brought together for capacity building, this is the first time such thing will happen in a long time”

Meanwhile, the state coordinator of AGILE, Dr Mansur Buhari, commend participants of the training for exhibiting true professionalism during the training exercise across the three centres.

He assured that the training will be stepped down to other teachers in their various schools so as to get more people accustom into record keeping.

He said the training was organized to show the importance of records and the vital roles it played in the school management and planning.

“The essence is purposely for record keeping and to have an up to date data of school so as to know where they needed help.

“It can also help other agencies that is related to education such as teachers service board to know the strength of these schools.”

He, however, said as part of plan to ensure sustainability of the program, AGILE has collaborate with SMBC, who he described as the owners of the school as well as eyes of the government.

He said AGILE has identified community involvement as a major components thereby giving them a special consideration in all AGILE programmes.
