The British High Commission in Nigeria has called on the judiciary to resolve any disputes arising from the recent Edo State governorship election with transparency and fairness.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the commission urged parties dissatisfied with the election’s outcome to make use of the established legal channels to address their grievances.

While acknowledging that the election was largely peaceful, the UK urged for calm in the aftermath of the result announcement.

“The UK calls for continued calm following the announcement of the result. Electoral and legal processes exist to address any challenges or disputes, and we encourage the authorities, including INEC, to examine all concerns transparently and in good faith,” the statement read.

The commission also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria and that it would continue to closely monitor the situation in Edo State.
