The Urhobo Progress Union,UPU has demanded the unconditional release of the Ovie of Ewu kingdom HRM Clement Ikolo, Urukpe the first by the Nigerian Army over his alleged involvement in the killing of 17 soldiers in Okuama Community Delta State south-south Nigeria on 17th March 2024.

The President General of UPU Chief Ese Gam made the call at a press conference held at the union secretariat in Warri, economic nerve centre of Delta State south-south Nigeria.

The President General who bemoaned the police for relinquishing its constitutional role for handing over the traditional ruler to the military after he had voluntary handed himself to the police, called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to immediately weigh into the issue and restore normalcy to Okuama community.

He also appealed to them to reach out to the people of Okuama community who are still in the bushes with relieve materials and healthcare.

The PG expressed worry of the Urhobo progress Union over the development, and wondered why the said persons were never invited for questioning or refused invitation from the military before they were declared wanted.

Recall that the Ovie of Ewu kingdom and seven other persons were declared wanted by the Nigerian Military over the Okuama killings.
