Chelsea defeated Leicester City 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday thanks to goals from Nicolas Jackson and Enzo Fernandez.
The victory would have been considerably more straightforward had Blues winger Noni Madueke not blocked Cole Palmer’s goalbound attempt.
In the fifteenth minute, as Chelsea dominated their hosts, Jackson took a touch and flicked the ball past Foxes keeper Mads Hermansen with the outside of his right boot, punishing Leicester for failing to clear their lines.
Madueke rushed ahead of the play and was unable to block Palmer’s close-range attempt at an empty net, diverting it wide, but Chelsea captain Fernandez spared his blushes by scoring in the 75th minute to give Chelsea a two-goal lead.
Leicester’s stoppage-time penalty from Jordan Ayew was too late to keep Chelsea from winning, which put the third-place Blues up to 22 points in the standings.
