500-room building collapses in Lagos

A building in Lagos state, Nigeria’s commercial capital has collapsed.

The building with over 500 rooms collapsed in the Ketu area of the state.

At least two people are in the hospital after the incident.

The building was formerly used as a school but later turned to a residential building. It partially collapsed on Saturday.

The building housing hundreds of residents is located at Agboye Estate on Oduntan Street, Ketu. It first caved in on Saturday afternoon following hours of rainfall that fell in most parts of Lagos state.

On Sunday afternoon the building crumbled and collapsed completely.

Hundreds of families were forced to vacate the premises.

Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency have cordoned off the premises.
